Secrets Lying in My Lunch Box

Children learn the three types of food (vegetables, grains and meat) and the concept of a balanced diet in this activity. Teachers will invite several parents to prepare the food belonging to these categories in a healthy way. During tea time, children eat according to the formula: three portions of grains, two portions of vegetables and one portion of meat. Many parents inform us that their children eat less meat and more vegetables at home after the activity.

Having Hotpot

In this activity, children will learn the names of different hotpot ingredients and ask their family what food they like to eat. They will create the list of ingredients and purchase them in the supermarket with the help of teachers and parent volunteers. After that, children will divide the work of preparing the food including washing and cutting, so as to improve their self-care ability. Apart from enjoying their hotpot, they can also show their care to family by reserving food for them. This brings love and warmth in the cold weather.

Lunar New Year Visit

Chinese New Year is an important festival in our tradition. Children wear beautiful Chinese traditional clothing and pay a visit to their classmates’ homes. They can put the customs they learnt in class into practice, for instance, say New Year greetings, name the New Year food and follow the New Year etiquettes. Children enjoy these visits a lot!

Sending Christmas Cards

Christmas is a joyful festival for everyone. Except learning the origin and stories of Christmas, we also hope to take this opportunity to send blessings to our loved ones. Children can send their handmade Christmas cards by post and give a warm surprise to their families.

“Colorful Hot Spring”

In this activity, children will have a “hot spring” exhibition. They have to design and make “hot springs” together. After they have completed their work, children will invite different people, e.g. teaching staff and students from other classes for appreciation. The event serves as a good exercise on plucking up the courage to invite people and present their own work.
